Thermal fuses are installed on the dryer s exhaust duct.
Test the fuse with a multimeter.
Measure with an ohm meter in the 20k range.

Ensure to shut off electrical power to the dryer before.
On kenmore elite it is the black device on the blower tube closest to the gas valve assembly.
To test any fuse set the function switch on your digital multimeter to the r x 1 scale or to its continuity function if it has one.
Disconnect the thermal fuse from the wires.
On an electric dryer if the thermal fuse is bad then the motor will not run.
Once you understand how to tell if a thermal fuse is blown you can move onto the next step.
Cold reading is around 12k ohms.

The thermistor is a device that is needed and unlike a thermal fuse cannot be bypassed by shorting its two leads together.
Unplug the dryer and remove the leads from the thermistor.

You can test the thermal fuse and repair the dryer yourself to avoid spending a lot of money on a service call.
If you have an electric dryer and the drum is rotating then the thermal fuse is not your problem.
If your dryer is not heating then you should test the thermal fuse thermal cutoff for continuity to see if it is good or bad.
If the needle on your multimeter does not move your thermal fuse is blow.
